Earth Rod Installation Checklist Uk
This is a practical field checklist for driving copperbond earth electrodes on UK sites — from service scan to clamp and label. It is operational hygiene, not a substitute for BS 7671 design or BS 7430 electrode engineering.
Pre-drive
- Locate buried services before any drive.
- Confirm electrode type and depth from the design, not from habit.
- Gather rod, couplings, a driving stud for copperbond rods, dedicated driver, inspection pit, proprietary clamp and Safety Electrical Connection label.

Drive sequence
- Protect the top with the matched stud or head before hammering.
- Keep the rod plumb; couple extensions correctly.
- Stop on refusal rather than destroying threads or copperbond coating.

Finish
- Confirm inspection-pit access to the connection.
- Apply corrosion protection on connections as required by the kit and design.

When not to continue
- Unknown or unscanned services.
- Frozen or otherwise unsuitable ground that needs redesign rather than more hammering.
